Press Release
Peugeot’s desirability off-road
The launch of Project”I3”, Peugeot's code name for the 4007, is the marque's response to strong growth in the market for compact all-terrain vehicles in Europe, which recorded an increase in volume of 11.3% between 2005 and 2006, and represents more than 1.1 million registered vehicles.
The segment occupied by the 4007, the Medium TT2, increased by 7% over the same period, rising from 457,000 to 488,000 units from one year to the next.
At the end of the first quarter of 2007, the increase was even more marked, with TT2 volumes rising from 129,000 units to 156,000 units at the end of March, an increase of +21 %. Although significant, these volumes are limited in absolute terms and accordingly favoured a partnership approach between the PSA Peugeot Citroën group and the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, a recognised specialist in 4x4 technology.
The cooperation contract was signed with the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation on 13 July 2005. Production of the Peugeot 4007 began in mid-April with a view to its commercial launch at the beginning of July.
4007 is identifiably Peugeot
The elegant, feline style of the 4007 marks its unmistakeable allegiance to the Peugeot lineage. The front aspect, designed by the Peugeot Style Centre, emphasises the car’s sports appeal and robustness. This sporty design echoes the elegance and refinement characteristic of the contemporary style of the Peugeot range. With its wide front grille, the 4007 is perfectly in keeping with the current style of the Marque’s cars.
A luxurious vehicle with feline-like contours, the 4007 offers a length of 4.64 m and a width of 1.80 m and stands out by its height (1.67 m), but above all by its ground clearance (176 mm), which emphasises its ability to be driven off road.
Inside, the Peugeot logo
The sporty and refined appeal of the 4007 is also evident in its interior design. The black interior has a Peugeot personality, highlighted by the presence of the steering wheel Lion logo. A “soft” finish has been given to the fascia panel, with the grain of the instrument panel reproduced on the upper door panels and cloth trim matching that of the seats above the door armrests. Seats on the first level feature a 3-part cloth trim to add a sporty touch. The car’s second level comes with leather seats.
The pooling of expertise
Combining the best of both vehicle manufacturers, the Peugeot SUV possesses an innovative integral transmission with electronic management which makes the car highly versatile. For its part, Peugeot offered recognised expertise in two main areas; In the field of energy-efficient diesel engines generating low levels of CO2 emissions. This environmental performance is enhanced by the particle emissions filter, a technology in which Peugeot leads the world. The latest-generation 2.2-litre HDi DPFS diesel engine featured on the Peugeot 4007 develops a power of 115 kW (156 bhp) and has environmental credentials of the highest order (191 g/km of CO2).
Peugeot’s expertise in terms of suspension contributes to the superior road holding of 4007, while the dynamic interior layout and a generous equipment specification allows a 5+2 seat configuration and a high degree of clever modularity.
A car with multi-faceted appeal
Customers in the market for this type of vehicle will find in the 4007 an answer to their expectations based on distinctive and status-enhancing design, a raised and protected driving position, a car which, in brief, inspires robustness and combines road holding and comfort. Such customers - SUV users on a daily basis - will also appreciate the performance of its environmentally friendly credentials.
Marketed from July in France
In view of available volumes - 20,000 annually - the 4007, essentially targeted at European markets, will be marketed in France from 12 July.
