Designed for the American market as GMC's version of the Chevrolet Equinox model, the GMC Terrain is the market segment replacement for the Pontiac Torrent as Pontiac withdraws from the SUV market to focus on passenger cars. A mid-size SUV based on GM's Theta platform, the North American GMC Terrain is not to be confused with GMC Terrain offered in the Middle East which is also Theta platform based, but more of a badge engineered Opel Antara.

Other vehicles which also ride upon the GM Theta platform include the Saturn VUE and Suzuki XL-7. In the next couple of years, a premium version of the Theta platform will serves as the basis for the yet to be released Cadillac BRX and Saab 9-4X models in 2010.

Codenamed 177, the GMC Terrain is expected to launch at the same time as it's fraternal twin, the Chevrolet Equinox. Power will likely come from a 3.6-liter V6, although it will likely offer more horsepower than today's version. Production starts in August of 2009 at the CAMI facility in Ontario, Canada, with sales following shortly afterwards.

who cares if it isn't ecological. Hating it makes you worse then the people who buy them. The whole global warming fanatics have been in a hush since the past couple years haven't followed their trends...

hating non eco friendly cars is like being a religious fanatic. You only make your cause seem worse.

Speedoholic: SUV´s are not the safest cars!!! Look at audi q7 - it got only 4* at EuroNCAP! And they are useless - you do not need 4WD in cities and they don´t have lots of space compared with MPV´s.

I need 4wd where I live, rwd=suicide during the winter, and fwd=stuck

The best thing is to have an SUV if you go to my area because the bumpers are so high if you have a normal car :S it will hit every time even if your going slow

HI Folks... I have a terrain since 1 APRIL 08, have covered more than 20,000 KM till now. Honestly moving from HONDA Accord, initially I felt, this as a a total rip off. I am in OMAN, AC is pathetic for the soaring temperatures up to 45 C, pick up compared to Accord.. sluggish and Fuel consumption.. I used to get 525 Kms for 65 Lt, now I get 300 Kms for 64 Lt full tank.. so its for you to decide.. Only solace is I am driving a brand, but the reality is its from DAEWOO KOREA.. .
