HUMMER Attempt to Rescue Sales Slide with 2009 H2 Black Chrome Edition

It remains to be seen whether there is anything that can save the HUMMER brand. Rising fuel prices along with demanding emissions standards makes one wonder if the demand for the oversized vehicles will ever return. At  least General Motors has acknowledged the difficulties the brand is likely to face when they announced they would undertake a strategic review which in general translation means it is probable that it will be sold off.

Despite the troubles, it won't stop special editions from breaking out of the factory. Ahead of it's launch GM has released a new set of photos of the 2009 H2 "Black Chrome" Limited Edition. The special model features a new set of 21 inch wheels and a whole bunch of additional “black chrome” touch ups. A choice of three exterior colors are available: Silver Ice Metallic, Sedona Metallic(exclusive to Black Chrome Edition) and Carbon Black Metallic.

1300 units of the Black Chrome Limited Edition will be available worldwide and they will be based on both the H2 and H2 SUT.

When will they kill off the H2. I read some article in on MSN that had a great quote about the H2: "It had its fling with polite society, a soirée combined from the macho family resemblance to the military-derived Hummer H1 and the housebroken underpinnings of a Chevy Suburban. Hot when it first landed, the H2 is now the redneck's parade float, thanks to the shift in the environmental wind." I hate the H2. I live in a major city and there are always a bunch of tools who drive the H2 and think they're bad ass. Unfortunately, those same individuals all share similar characteristics. They are all short, little guys with napoleon complexes who think that the H2 somehow makes them tough and six feet tall. I can't wait until the H2 is finally killed off for good.

this should really be just a limited production vehicle i.e. 1500 units total a year, not for just the special edition. Chock it up with more luxury amenities then any rolls, and sell it for $200,000. it isn't an off roader, it isn't pretty, so it might as well be a luxury truck/van/suv with all that suspension travel just to proved the ultimate smooth ride.

GM definitely is smoking crack! Truthfully they should be making money on these things even if the significantly discounted the truck as it uses so much old technology.

I hate Hummers. Worthless POSes they are. Great for off-roading very very short distances. But on the roads????? Worthless.

I have to admit this is stupid...out of all the trucks that use the Tahoe chassis, this has THE WORST fuel economy. Its really bad, the only thing that can save this truck is high-tech technology like diesel/hybrid combo. This truck doesn't serve so much of a purpose as although its a very capable off-roader, it will almost never be used for that. So basically its Tahoe that looks awesome(i admit sorry guys)but gets even worse gas mileage.

But... the chrome isnt REALLY black, and "fuel flex" for a Hummer? No only is that the most un American thing ever (next to the hybrid Escalade/Tahoe/Yukon) but its like... forget it, it dsnt deserve an analogy.

flex fuel for a hummer is a very american thing, the cheapest way you can ever call a hummer green. Just upgrade your fuel lines and your good.

although death for human beings is certain, death for a car maker is not certain - except for Hummer

Everything about this car is wrong. The people who own it are gangsters, murderers rapists and drug dealers. The engines used are archaic, the tech is old and the moment is gone. Arnold is now a senator, the Iraq war a disaster, fuel prices going up faster than the speed of light. We have been waiting too long for a diesel. Who wants a 3.7 I5 in a 4x4? One way it could see a way through is by bringing out a new model with all plastic door panels, carbon fibre or aluminium construction and maybe that new 2.9 V6 turbo-diesel from VM motori (GM owned) might change things (apparently it will have 550nm of torque)

You can dress up a pig, but...

Soon enough the Hummer will revert to being a specific-purpose vehicle as it was originally intended, NOT a suburban showpiece. Hummers are awesome military vehicles, but that's about it. The mystique it once held with the public has disappeared like $2 gas

Tick. Tick. Tick... It's just a matter of time before GM faces the facts and axes Hummer. Who in their right mind would want to pay to fill an H2. They have been gas guzzlers since they hit the market and that was when gas was cheap! Unless GM is hiding some revolutionary new models that get decent mileage failure is just a matter of time. For their exterior size, the interiors in these vehicles are tiny. A standard Tahoe that they are based on has more interior space. As far as off-roading goes they are only so so. Way too much wheelbase and hardly any suspension travel. I used to drive a Jeep Wrangler and on the trails Hummers simply can't go where Jeeps or even old Broncos will go. Can you say "all show and no go!"

this rig ain't no Hummer . it's a Chevy truck vainly pretending to be one . the H2s serial manufacture ought to have been the one terminated instead of the Alpha H1. biiigg mistake...baby

Yea, i second that...i cant beleive GM was dumb enough to do that. They kill the O.G. the one that actually could serve a purpose in the Army as well as being the TRUE essence of Hummer/HUMVEE and they keep this. I'll admit it looks really mean/cool but thats the problem, its just a look.

Hummers are amazing. powerful, reliable, and damn good looking. i love My H3. and Hummer is worth all the petrol it swallows
